THE UNIVERSITY JOURNEY
ACS Egham's mission to help students navigate the complex transition to higher education
At ACS Egham, we are committed to providing a holistic educational experience that nurtures our students into well-rounded global citizens, prepared to lead and change the world. As part of this mission, our University and College Counselling team plays a central role in helping students navigate the complex transition to higher education. With the support of our expert Counsellors, our students are guided through every step of the university application process, ensuring they find the best "fit" for their future studies.
In 2024, we celebrated the largest graduating class in ACS Egham’s history, with 68 students. Among them, 53 students applied to universities in 11 different countries, submitting a total of 277 applications with an impressive 79% success rate. Our graduates went on to attend world-class institutions across the UK, US, Europe, and beyond. This success is a testament to the personalised guidance and deep care that our University and College Counsellors provide to each student.
A Focus on “Fit”
When it comes to university admissions, “fit” means finding an institution that meets the academic, emotional, geographical, and financial needs of the student. The process of selecting the right university is about more than just choosing the most prestigious option. It’s about ensuring that students thrive in a place that supports both their educational and personal aspirations. Our Counsellors work tirelessly to guide students towards institutions that align with their strengths, ambitions, and values, thereby improving their chances of academic success and personal fulfillment.
Tailored Guidance at Every Step
From Grade 9 onwards, our students begin to explore their future opportunities during Careers Week. This early exposure helps them start thinking about potential career paths and the role higher education will play in achieving their goals. In Grade 10, students begin making decisions about which programmes and subjects to pursue in Grades 11 and 12. During this time, our University and College Counsellors play an integral role in Pathway meetings, offering advice on course selection to ensure a well-rounded academic profile.
In Grades 11 and 12, our students receive individualised support from their designated Counsellor, who provides one-on-one sessions to guide them through the university application process. From crafting a standout personal statement to navigating complex admission requirements, our Counsellors are there every step of the way. Their expertise is particularly valuable when advising students from diverse academic backgrounds, including those pursuing the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, IB Career-related Programme (IBCP), and US High School Diploma (HSD).
A Global Network of Expertise
Our Counsellors bring a wealth of experience and insights into the university application process. Many of them have studied or lived in different countries, giving them a unique understanding of the challenges that come with transitioning between education systems, cultures, and locations. This international perspective is especially important for our students, many of whom have moved multiple times during their academic journey. We understand that navigating these changes can be overwhelming, and we provide a safe space for students to share their concerns and seek guidance.
The breadth of our expertise also extends to the diversity of university systems. With experience in navigating admissions processes in countries such as the UK, US, Canada, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Australia, and Japan, we are able to offer students tailored support no matter where they wish to study. This includes helping them understand the varying requirements of each system, such as entrance exams, personal statements, and application deadlines.
Ensuring Success Beyond University
At ACS Egham, we don’t just prepare students for university; we prepare them for success beyond. Our Counsellors help students find universities that will not only support their academic growth but also nurture their emotional and personal development. By carefully considering all aspects of a student’s needs, we increase their chances of graduation and success in their chosen career path.
As we continue to support our students on their journey to higher education, we remain deeply committed to their well-being and success, both during their time at ACS Egham and in the future. We are proud to watch our students flourish as they take their next steps in becoming the leaders of tomorrow.
