The latest stories and developments from our campuses in the UK and Qatar, including international celebrations, a new boarding film, and a brace of education Awards.
Last week the ACS Doha community held its annual International Day festival, to celebrate the diversity of cultures and nationalities within the school. Participants dressed in national costumes, paraded, and tried cuisine from different parts of the world. This week, the school will be actively participating in Qatar National Day, with peotry readings, field trips, and cultural dancing. These festivals are examples of ways in which the school can demonstrate the benefits of its international ethos.
ACS Hillingdon Lower School has been recognised as an Apple Distinguished Programme, for its innovative one-to-one iPad student scheme. The award is reserved for schools which demonstrate technological innovation, leadership and educational excellence and each school will hold the designation for two years.
Apple Distinguished Programmes use Apple hardware, apps and content to promote creativity, collaboration, innovation and critical thinking to transform learning and teaching. Over the next two years, ACS Hillingdon Lower School will play an active role in helping other local and international schools implement tablet technology, through a series of educator visits.
Michelle Eriksen, Lower School Principal, commented:
“Receiving recognition as an Apple Distinguished Programme is a testament to the staff, students and the ACS community’s collective hard work, collaboration and the journey we have been on since we launched our iPad programme over five years ago.”
As part of the school’s award submission, the team created an online book which showcased how ACS students and staff utilise Apple technology in the classroom.
As construction of our new boarding house at ACS Cobham is well under way, we tool the opportunity to ask staff and students what they love about boarding life at ACS. Take a look at what they had to say:
Following the announcement of the nomination in our last issue, we are delighted to announce that ACS Egham won the ‘Outstanding Contribution for International Understanding’ Award from the Independent Schools Association (ISA). The ISA Awards recognise excellence in a number of categories, and ACS Egham's nomination is in recognition of students' international outreach activity, raising funds and donations to help students in Nepal.
Congratulations to all those involved for this fantastic achievement!
